Assistant Biosafety Officer [United States]


 Under the general supervision from the Biosafety Officer at the UCLA Office of Environment, Health & Safety and in accordance with State and Federal regulations, serve as a technical expert, coordinate a broad variety of safety programs and assure the Biosafety program is implemented across the UCLA Campus. Develop and serve as lead for one or more of the following safety programs: Bloodborne Pathogens, Aerosol Transmissible Disease, Institutional Biosafety Policy and Operations and other Research compliance, BSL-3 High Containment and Select Agents, Medical Surveillance, Training, Biohazardous/Medical Waste, Animal Research Safety, Shipping Dangerous Goods, Equipment and Facility Validation, Regulatory Agency liaison, Program Document Management and Incident/Injury Response and Investigation. Perform special assignments provided by the Biosafety Officer or their designee.

Required/Preferred

A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field such as microbiology, virology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or closely related field, and minimum of two years professional experience in a compliance based role or comprehensive environmental health and safety program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working knowledge of federal, state and local health and safety regulations and guidelines governing, laboratory and biological safety including NIH Guidelines, CDC BMBL, CalOSHA BBP and ATD Std.

Advanced knowledge of federal, state and local health and safety regulations and guidelines governing BSL3 operations including Federal Select Agent Program requirements.

Advanced knowledge of risk mitigation, industrial hygiene principles, biological safety controls, exposure evaluation, exposure monitoring, and occupational health processes.
